Moab MUni Fest 2006

Well, it is amazing what a little begging will do for you. It's a shame I didn't figure it out until long after childhood, but at least I have the skills now.
Let me back up...
Every year there is an amazing mountain unicycle event in Moab, Utah. Every year I think about it but can't pull the time or money together to make it. But this year, being in the concrete and cold weather of NYC, and missing Corbin and my other lovely muni friends, I decided it was a must.
Being part of a circus company includes many hours of training, performances and with the tight-knit group we have, it becomes like family...to the point of having to ask permission to take a weekend off. So slightly scared, but knowing there was no way around the conversation if I truly wanted to leave town, I asked the director if I could go. We passed the ball of reasoning back and forth, why it wasn't an injury risk, why missing three rehearsals wouldn't be a tragedy to the company, why it was important to me. And in the end, I just layed my head on his chest and said "please, please, please...," blinking my big blue eyes at him all along. Two hours later, I had won.

And it was worth it! I had one of the best weekends of my life.
The rocks and mountains are amazing, with red rock formations on one side and snow-capped mountains on the other.

The trails were incredible for riding and I was riding better than ever. Although, that could have been due to the fact that I was on a borrowed unicycle that had longer cranks and more tread on the tire than mine. (I packed my unicycle and safety gear and it got lost somewhere between NY airport and Salt Lake City. I spent all weekend on the phone trying to get it back, but in the end, I just picked it up again at the end of it all when I was back in the airport. The unicycle community is amazingly kind and generous and they found me a unicycle to ride. I taped up my ankles to protect them, but the lack of a helmet was just misfortune, not a fashion statement).

And besides all the amazing rides, the good friends, the beer and hot tub and the new bruises, the best part was seeing Corbin again and knowing he's the one.
It was sickly romantic and just plain wonderful to stare into his eyes again. I have run all over the planet, searching for myself and chasing my dreams and now I can knowingly say that when I come back to the bay area and marry him, it will be exactly what I want.
I still have months left here in NY, though, and I'm enjoying it all. We had our first spring-like day today, and more are promised by Mr. Weatherman.
The company has its own difficulties, as one member broke a rib last week and another packed her bags and left this morning. But the few that are left are dedicated and training hard for our summer tour, which will be nearly 3 months!

Missing you all back home and I will see you in 2007, when I come "home" to be with the man I love.

Happy Birthday at the Grill

Well, the 27th birthday came and went, and it was a fabulous relaxing day on tour.
I hung out all day in the SUN (imagine that!), drank coffee, read a book, took a nap on the grass, went shopping and had a very nice day with no rehearsals and no driving in the happy little town of Athens, Georgia.

We went out to dinner at the only restaurant open at our normal dinner hour (after 11pm), so burgers and fries it was. I swear, we are going to be the first fat circus.

Evidence that we love to eat!

Group shot!

Check my I.D. It's my birthday!

Heaven help us. We are in the south and we went to Walmart!

And apparently loved it.
