Series of Unfortunate injuries

Seems this is the year of travel, change, fun, growth, opportunity, challenges and INJURIES.

First, it was my right ankle when I was in Barcelona last October. That took a solid 4 months to be back to where I could run on it again. Then, in the beginning of January during my first day in rehearsal here with Firefly Aerial Acrobatics, I sprained my other ankle. Then in February, my back started to hurt so bad that I was off of training for weeks.
After that, I was fortunate enough to have a good 6 weeks or so where I was training a ton. My handstands were getting much better, my skills on the silks and my over-all strength was getting to a more professional level, and I was cast in a 4 person ground acro act. I was really stoked on it all.
But, about a month ago, my ribs started to hurt. I didn't want to complain (or deal with the doctor since my insurance sucks and won't really cover it). I tried to ignore it, but gradually it got worse and I started doing less of certain things that really aggravate it. About a week ago it got so bad that I couldn't do anything. I was awake all night (for several nights in a row) cuz the pain was so intense. I couldn't breathe, I couldn't cry....you can imagine I was worried. Cypher agreed to pay for me to get my ribs x-rayed.
I went to see an amazing doctor in Manhattan. I haven't gotten the x-rays done yet (I had to schedule a separate apt. with a radiologist) but he suspects that I have fractured one of my floating ribs. It's not dangerous, cuz it isn't near any organs, but it hurts like hell, and if it really IS fractured, I'm off training for another 6 weeks.

As you can imagine, I am a bit frustrated with the whole thing. The company is really moving to an exciting place right now where there is finally funding to pay us to train full-time! Who would have thought that I could be a paid circus artist? But alas, I have to sit around for 6 weeks and watch the others perform the act that I was once in and learn new tricks that I want to be learning. I suppose it is a lesson in patience.

Since I can't be here training for awhile, I am heading back to California to see Corbin and my family and friends and rest up a bit. I should be in town starting the end of June. I will have to make a bit of money since I won't be in NY working (if anyone needs childcare or other odd jobs), and I would love to see ya'll.

For now, I am working on getting the time off to go home for a bit, supposedly composing a 7 minute, 5-voice composition for the ground act (uh-huh, sure i am), teaching aerial classes, organizing for the student recital and drinking more beer than maybe I should be since I am not getting much exercise. : )

I would love to hear what the rest of you are up to, if anyone is reading this anymore.

Much love, Louise
